The numbers of transfers and salaries are going up really quickly, so we have to find solutions where we can. With TransferRoom we build a network with other clubs to have a good relationship and to find solutions regarding players.
Montpellier's budget is further constrained right now by the Covid-19 pandemic and the uncertainty over the future of TV rights in Ligue 1, meaning Montpellier have to “make good choices in recruitment and the academy,” according to Bruno Carotti, Sporting Director, Montpellier.
He said: “The numbers of transfers and salaries are going up really quickly, so we have to find solutions where we can. With TransferRoom we build a network with other clubs to have a good relationship and to find solutions regarding players. I think the big challenge for us is to keep being competitive with less money.”
Getting good information and being able to act on that quickly can help Montpellier breach the financial gap.
Carotti said: “To have the best information you have to find a direct link to the club, and for that TransferRoom can give us the opportunity to speak directly to a director or the person that is head of recruitment to get this good information, so we know if the player is available, if we can have a loan or buy, and what the right price is.
“For a club like us, we can propose some players and think of solutions with different clubs in different countries depending on the level of the player.”
Whether it’s the live or virtual summits or the Transferroom.com platform, Montpellier have been able to broaden their thinking around recruitment.
Carotti said: “I think it is important to find a good league, where we can sign players. South America is important, North America is important now too.
“With TransferRoom, we can travel a lot in one place, so we can meet different countries, different clubs very quickly. Football is international so it is a good opportunity for us.”
