How TransferRoom changed Kevin Thelwell’s transfer strategy
From the Premier League to MLS, Kevin Thelwell has felt the benefits of using TransferRoom
Once you create that transparency among clubs and they’re operating directly with one another, you build that trust and that confidence to work in a particular way. I think this has made the transfer market look a lot different today.

Taking the direct route to success

Kevin Thelwell first used TransferRoom in his role as Sporting Director at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Direct contact with fellow decision-makers was crucial in making decisions, especially in the loan market.

Thelwell said: “There is a much greater opportunity to get some direct communication and that can only be beneficial, when clubs talk directly to other football clubs.

“Once you create that transparency among clubs and they’re operating directly with one another, you build that trust and that confidence to work in a particular way. I think this has made the transfer market look a lot different today.”

The bigger, the better

TransferRoom has over 800 member clubs from more than 80 leagues around the world, and has facilitated hundreds of transfers.
By connecting decision-makers at all levels of the game, the digital marketplace provides a unique and transparent way to do business whose power and reach will only increase.

Thelwell said: “TransferRoom should and could become the number one marketplace for discussing player transfers, both in and out. The more clubs get involved, the more opportunities to communicate and have relationships, then the better the system will be.”

Positive deal-making with a negative budget
Frank Arnesen was given an unenviable task when he joined Feyenoord as Technical Director in early 2020: turn years of transfer loss making into a profit on the balance sheet and stay competitive on the pitch.
